Funny Story about Knifefish and Fish Experts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
those custom banners made me laugh pretty hard. so and sos 5 gallon dreamscape. heh magical.

Its pet store 'experts' that are the worst, other than some marine biologists. LFS guys are ok, but I went to the petsmart for crickets, and saw some dwarf puffers. I had been meaning to set up a species tank, and I had a new 29 wide hex all cycled and ready. But I don't buy WC fish. So I asked the guy, 'are these wild caught or captive bred?' and he says, let me get the expert. So in like five minutes a guy (younger than me, with acne) comes out and starts spouting about how only an experienced fishkeeper like himself should even attempt dwarf puffers. So I ask him about his tanks. He says he has a 10 gallon with a big goldfish and guppies in it. So 1) he is keeping goldfish and tropicals together (one of those is suffering) 2) he is keeping a large (black moor, from his description) in a 10 gallon, with no plans for expansion. I just left. I do know an awesome reptile (and everything else, but I can manage most other things) expert. He could probably beat god in an animal quiz bowl.

It all depends on the particular store and who you talk to.. Majority of these type of people don't know much..

FYI, The DPs are captive-bred in Florida. :)

Another reason why I like MFK, it really is the best, laid back, helpful, friendly, and most of all keeps things light and fun,

Thats the whole reason I have decided to stay at MFK and never go back to forums like that, after seeing a number of people getting grilled for doing nothing more than ask a simple question. It got to a point where I never posted and have never got up the courage to ask any questions I may have had. And to ask questions and learn about this stuff is why I'm here. Hell I made a few post trying to figure out what a certain Piranaha's common name was and never did get it right and the sweet thing about it is I wasn't being trash talked thats why I enjoy The MFK so much!!!!! The humourous tuff is an added bonus, in fact I would like to see what the reaction would be to the guy at MFK that has a thread going about how he ate his fish I guarentee that he would get nailed bad, but for me I thought it was kinda funny and made me more curious as to how my Jags would tase :)

Ive learned a lot ( and still learn new things ) through the board. Ive also made a lot
of friends in the process. I always think to myself that the best way to repay is to help others who are starting out or those that need advice regarding our hobby. And lastly, a hobby should be fun. Attitude and bickering should be kept to a minimum !
