Good evening Discus keepers!..
I have a 40G breeder tank, with ac110 and a powerhead.
will this filtration be enough? I have another ac110 just sitting
in the cabinet. would 2 ac110 over kill for filtration?

I understand that discus needs to have good water quality
and i will be doing a weekly water change or twice a week at 25%.

Any inputs will be appreciated. I'm getting discus cause I love their colors
and my dad has been asking when I'm putting nice fish in my tank.

Thanks.

One can never overkill filtration. Watch the current, discus don't really like fast moving water. You'll need a dependable heater they should be in warmer waters. Just do your homework first and you'll be fine. A 40 gallon is about the minimum for a pair.

Thanks!..so taking out the powerhead will be a good idea and
putting another ac110 on there with foam block to block the fast flow from the ac110.

THanks again!..

here's how it looks with two ac110 on it, driftwood and artificial plant (which will go soon once i get the discus)...
I will have lights on it and live plants soon...

How much filtration you want to put in will also depend on what's your feeding and water changes schedule. IMHO, 2 AC110 is an overkill. I put 4 adult discus (6.5"-7") in my 37 gal and I only run a sponge filter with not other mechanical filtration. I feed them twice a day and do 70% water change every other day.

I think the output of the ac110 is too powerful for a tank of that profile.

I also think that 3"-4" discus need to be fed quite frequently and I think you are going to want to up the water change schedule. A lot of waste is going to be created in a tank with subtrates
