I am currently thinking about future plans for my tanks (currently at 6 including QT tanks). The main idea I have been
kicking around concerns the long range plans for my Butterfly Koi, Ginger and her 3 Sarasa Comet buddies.:)

They are currently in a 246 gallon tank and I cannot believe that I am already considering moving them to a larger enclosure (it happens when a Koi grows almost 17 inches in a year and a half):WHOA:

My 2 choices are a 500 gallon acrylic tank setup or building an indoor pond for the Koi/ Goldfish. We have a large dining room area that the back wall is bare and my wife and I have been trying to figure out what to do with this space. I recently had the idea to build and indoor pond coming out from the corner with a waterfall and lights and plants etc....and with the measurements I took the pond should just be over a 1000 gallons (108X72X36).

What do you guys think??? Indoor Pond or 500 gallon tank?? I am thinking that the pond may actually be a little less expensive.

Thanks.

^^i agree. Tank would be better for you to observe your fish but a pond would be better for people who come over because I think that would look amazing

The pond may actually be better overall, since Koi are almost always appreciated from above. That is how they're identified right?
I'm not a huge Koi guy, but my mom is really into them. She has several in her (now) indoor pond. She actually added an addition to the house so she could get her koi pond covered.

With the pond you still get to appreciate their colors, and you can watch them come up to eat. I guess I vote pond.

Ya that's true. Forgot koi is best viewed from the top so the pond is definitely the better option. But if u do go for the tank then u have future options of changing the stock out completely and trying out new fish species.
