Future Power Outage Preparation?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've got a Kohler 12kW whole house propane generator installed for my house. We are very pleased with it and it's come in handy a few times during power outages.

We looked at a few different manufacturers and decided Kohler was the best. We had a local company come out to help determine the whole house load and that determined which model we got. They did the complete install and the system automatically switches over during a power loss.

Just got this Black Max 8125 generator (barely used for a great deal) last night locally from an Asian family (from one of the richest neighborhoods in central Ohio) who's moving to Cali soon. Same model is also sold on ebay:

Not comparable to stationary gensets, but it's a beast and has plenty of power (6500/8125 watts) to run what I'd need to during winter storms. And it's a Honda engine! It's looking and running like new. :):):)

I'm not going with the full blown solution of having a transfer switch installed though. Just plan on running some long 15amp extension cables to power essential appliances and fish tanks.
