Future Snakehead Tank.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just quickly briefed over them online haha. Thought 2pin was something to do with the timer itself rather than the origin! So this thing automatically controls my light and i just plug it in and set a timer?

Sorry for double post, but I'm sticking to the plan of making the tank good, but I'm stuck between making it good for a senegal bichir or a dwarf snakehead :/.
What's the differences between the fish aside from looks?

Rainbows stay smaller then sens. SH are much more alert then bichirs. Bichirs don't have very good vision. They both have their own appeals, but it's really up to you.

I think I'm gonna stick with a SH after seeing the price of bichirs lol., nearly double the price for the same size, even more so for an armoured bichir.
How do SH's react to people watching them through the glass?

Mine come out when they see me looking for food. They were a little bit nervous at first, but as long as they have hiding spots they can retreat to, they feel comfortable.

Just to be clear I don't currently keep rainbows, although I've had them in the past. I do have other sub-tropical channa though. I keep SHs and bichirs and if I had to choose I'd keep my SHs over my bichirs.

I'm torn between gachua or a rainbow. Are there many differences between the species?

I've never kept gachua, but it's my understanding that they get slightly larger and are more aggressive. There are also a few gachua variations to choose from. You might want to wait for an experienced gachua keeper to chime in though.

So progress so far! I've got myself a timer got it on 10 hours through the day and got myself 8 bundles of plants. I've also switched to a finer gravel. I'll get a pic up when water has cleared, the muck from the gravel has uplifted, anything I should do as I'm switching gravel? I haven't taken any out so all the good bacteria is still there.

Turns out the plants I have got are 8 bundles of Anacharis and apparently they can grow without their roots in the ground so I may get a few more bundles and lay them across the surface when done.

You don't have to get any more! You will see for yourself that it's a fast growing plant, that has very little requirments! You will soon be throwing it away by the bucketloads!

Waiting for photos!

p.s. did you do anything about the lighting? If you like it how it looks now, you dont have to change it! ;)

Just trying to get the plants in rather than set them in the places I want, it's too awkward for me to try and sort my tank out at the moment because I can only use one arm haha. Just got a tattoo done so staying away from fish tank water with that arm. So the plants and gravel are in one corner, the pet shop ran out of gravel of the same kind, it doesn't look natural as sand but I think it looks nice with the black backdrop. I've been told to put each plant 2 inches apart for a good look. I was hoping to get some more though to vary the look or maybe have some floating. I still need a good floor plant and floating plant. I was looking at duckweed for floating. My LFS didn't really have any wood to use ( they had small pieces that wouldn't do any good. So I'm still searching but I may spend this month sorting the tank then get the snakehead later. I cannot get hold of one for 2 weeks anyway. I dunno if the tank would be sorted by then or not.

Heres a pic!

Like I said this isn't how the plants are gonna be! Still waiting for more gravel.

I've just noticed a snail in the tank too -.-. Will this be a problem? I hear snakeheads will eat them but will they eat the plants until the snakehead arrives? So far I can only see one, should I remove it?

Just browsing through the web I found a site that I have ordered from before, they offer a bunch of 15 random plants, the list says Cabomba, Elodia Densa, Japonicus, Sword Plant, Crimonsette, Dracena, Java Fern, Vallis, Umbrella Plant. Should I buy this or try and find plants myself?
