where my cichla are
i need to ask a question, cause i've never seen this fuzz on this kind of scale before. i know all driftwood gets a little fuzzy stuff now and then.. but there is a LOT of it in this tank.

it's fully cycled and ready for fish, but i'm not sure about the fuzz. i got readings of 0 ammonia, 0 nitrite and 20 ppm nitrate. the tank is only a little over half full at the moment, i'm not going to finish filling it up till the fish are in it and the holes for the bulkhead fittings in the back are plugged off.

so.. here is a pic.. so you can see the grand scale of the fuzz on the wood. let me know if you think it's ok to put the fish in with the wood fuzzy like that.

do a search of bba (black brush algae). see if the pics of it look like yours.
i got it on my driftwood. i cut down the lighting time and manually remove it during vacs. so far im able to keep it in check.

it doesn't seem to have anything to do with lighting.. the light wasn't on it for the first couple weeks that i had water in the tank. i only put the light on the tank a little over a week ago. and the fuzz was already there. the room that the tank is in is kinda dark even on bright sunny days.

It's just a kind of algae. The fish won't mind at all.

What kinda fish are you putting in this tank? Many plecos love to eat the driftwood mold. Also other fish will munch on it. Given time it will go away by itself or it is easily wiped off.

+2. My plecos and rainbow shark go absolutely nuts for it whenever I add new wood. It should run it's course in about a week or so, but most plecs will clean it up in less than a week. Most algae eating fish consider it a delicacy

i'm going to put my orinos and my bichers in this tank.. that's what i bought the tank for.. lol. but i can steal a pleco out of the 210.. the 2 that are in there don't care much for each other.

i just don't like putting bottom dwellers in the same tank with plecos cause they harass them. last time i had bichers and a pleco in the same tank i caught the pleco sucking slime coat off my bichers. could be a temporary thing too. could just borrow a pleco for the purposes of cleaning the driftwood..

If it's blackbeard algae, your pleco won't eat it. We need an ID on exactly what this "fuzz" is before you get any actual useful advice. Can't see it very well from the pictures.

you will get it if the wood are new. take it out and wipe it off now and then. after months in your tank it will goes away and not coming back. or you could put a flag tail in there and it will eat it.
