My GT just spawned and I have the fry in a 5 gal with a sponge filter. The food that I put in that doesnt get eaten gets this fuzzy stuff around it, is the only way to avoid this to siphon the bottom every day? Is this some kind of bacteria that is bad for the fry?

It is probably a fungus, it is bad, feed smaller ammounts less often and siphon off the excess.

Yes, very bad! Take guppys and gomezladdams advice!

what are you feeding and what size is the fry? don't know why anyone else hasn't asked this there is probably a better food that you could be giving them...

I was feeding them way too much, and now that they are bigger I got a whisper 10 on the tank and I think the better current helps to avoid this.

not good. feed smaller foods if posible in smaller amounts

:iagree: break up your feeding twice aday or twice every other day! starvin your fish one day a week will not hurt them and does wonder's for your water quality . but I'm talkin about larger then fry size . fry like all baby's need everyday feeding's good luck happy fish parenting to you...

i have butikoferie fry in a 10 galon tank they a two days hatched and stay on the bottom all the time i fear sucking up the fry while sucking out the fungus any sugestions
