fuzzies around uneaten food bad for fry?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've used common small air line hose to siphon out debris from fry tanks. You can crimp the hose easily to regulate suction. Be sure to siphon the water into a light colored container (preferably white), that way if you suck up any fry you can spot them in the container and put them back in the tank. Takes accuracy and patience but works for me. :D

I always try to keep my fry on bare bottom tanks that way you can see the food and I don't try and feed super small pellets... I have found that the fry will pick at the pellets untill its gone.

I have fry in 20 gal tanks with sponges and they seem to really like it.... if they get hungry they will pick the sponge clean and then I feed a little more at each feeding untill the sponges are clean but not 100% picked clean.

Good luck ..... I love GTs

:iagree:

I bought a small cheap siphon for the baby tanks because they don't have a very big hose on it so it dosen't have a powerfull siphon and I siphon it into a bucket and them I look at the water with a flash light to make sure I didn't get any fry.

Have fun!

Nice to have someone agree with me for a change. Lately my posts have been getting flamed into oblivion by a bunch of redneck "know it alls"!

Hey if you live in Indy why haven't we gotten together to see each others tanks.

LOL! That's more like it! Didn't you mention something before about wondering why you hadn't seen me at "the meeting" (or something like that). I'm assuming you belong to one of the two Indianapolis fish organizations?

I'm not a member of the Circle City Club or Indianapolis Aquarium club, but I would be interested in attending a meeting or event. Maybe we could meet at something like that.

I actually live in Anderson. I should change my location status on this site to Indiana so that it doesn't imply that I live in Indianapolis. You would likely get bored with my fish because I mostly keep small common characins. After 35+ years of fish keeping I've gone from commons to oddballs and currently back to commons. Weird how aesthetics change over time!
