Hi... i just put driftwood in my tank like a week ago, and now i noticed something forming like a cloudy fuzzy mold or something that looks like that on small areas of the driftwood... Now does anybody know what it is or is it harmful to my water, fishes... etc??!! Please let me know. (oh and i tried to take a pic of it but couldn't get a clear shot.)

if it was only in there for a week it should have not formed that mold u are talking about but if u could get a pic it would really help on determing what it is

I get the same stuff on mopani driftwood that I put in the tanks. It goes away after awhile. I've seen a lot of people ask about it and the general concensious is that it's harmless.

agree with twisted penguin, dont worry about it its quite normal and it does go after a few weeks. loads of queries about it on here. it happened to me too. its only a harmless fungus.

maybe the wood hasnt dried enough, well its still organic

The wood im using is also Mopani driftwood. Is mopani known to do this or something?? By the way it looks... it was starting to worry me. LOL.... thank god to hear that its harmless. Hope it goes away VERY soon! thanks all!

It only seems to happen when the wood is new. I've had the same mopani peices for 18 months and have moved them to different tanks and never had it happen. I had a piece of oak (I think) that I'd found in the yard and cleaned off and it did the same thing. So I don't think it's just mopani, I think it's something to do with the wood never having been submerged before. It'll go away though. I know-it looks bad lol
