IN A PLACE
:irked:

i thought I had it all figured out after I swapped the media out of one fx-5 and put it into a backup one. The o-ring on the motor housing looked beatup so I assumed that was causing air to get sucked into the filter. Alas, the bubbles have returned. My set up is pretty simple: the fx-5 is plumbed into the side of my tank. THe inlet is 12" above the bottom and the return is 8" above the inlet. The tank is almost 4' tall so there is no way that air is getting sucked into the inlets.

The bubbles are definitely coming from the canister (I can hear the gurgling through the canister before shooting out the return)

Any suggestions.

Also, a separate FX-5 bubbling issue I encountered was when I added melafix to a different tank. After about 30 seconds, the FX-shot out a bunch of microbubbles and then went back to normal. Anyone have an explanation for that?

It purges air every 24hrs, and 1st 5 min.

Exactly what are you running for media?

no bubbles in the intake unless fish are blowing them in there while I am not looking. The media is matrix, sponges, a bag of carbon, and blue pad on top. I rinsed it out about 2 or 3 weeks ago. My feeding is conservative--one meal every other day.

if it didn't come from the in-take then it must be from the canister seal, try to rub the seal down with a little bit of silicone

If the blue pad is for fine filtration that is your problem they clog very quickly. Remove just the blue pad and see if that is not your issue.

Lol that'd be hilarious..

And yes as stated anything but the sponges for mech filtration will cause bubbles, also, ditch the carbon!

I'm gonna try that and add some more matrix in lieu of the carbon and the pad. Come to think of it....the matrix might be in a mesh bag...could that be trapping air as well?
