FX-5 Bubbles are back

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Alas! An afternoon to myself and my tank. Finally had a chance to mess with it during a water change. I replaced the top pad and bag of carbon (i suspect that was the culprit). So far so good--no bubbles. Also was able to swap out my return line manifold as well (only required two repipes and had to buy another union valve).

Anyways, thanks guys!

I found out the hard way as well, the mechanical filtration for this filter sucks.

most will argue that it's cause it's so efficient which is why it clogs so fast but once the bubbles happen the filter pads are barely dirty in comparison to others. These canisters work great as a bio only filter, pushes mad gph and holds a decent amount of media.

Imo the filter is great for bigger waste particles in a mechanical sense, its great at removing the big stuff but when it comes to polishing yes it sucks, the amount of poo that is in the sponges when I open mine is incredible, so much, but the finer stuff just gets stuck in media and causes bubbles that's why I don't run my fx5 solo!
