that was a good read. i was going to get an eheim pro II but now i'm on the hunt for a pro III since i saw it at drfostersmith for the same price. the thing is its on backorder at drfostersmith. does anybody know any other online sites that has the pro III 2128 for $314.99 or less?
Eheim pro 3 is model 2080 not 2128. 2128 is the thermal pro 2

Half the time with you ducati I am just kidding around. Afterall they are just aquarium filters, no point really getting worked up :D

Have you noticed any drop in flow rate with your FX5 between replacing the filter wool etc?

I think most know by now when Im excitied or worked up :) the thread dosent last long :)
Im totally ok with this topic and discussion...it is what it is and thats that....

Im totally satisfied with the Fx5 - I always have zero in the ppm scale with it on a 220 gallon. The filter does slow down flow wise after a month or more - I usually do 2 to 3 week water change intervals, and clean the filter usually when the flow slows a little bit usually about 6 weeks. I feed heavy as well...tank always is crystel clear with perfect conditions. trouple free overall which is good because I have other hobbies to contend with and little time to focus :)

Danny why is that?

sorry for late reply(work) my pro 3 gives good bio but it leaves crud floting around
and it dosent agitate the surfice enough so i have had to put in two fulval plus4`s in to do the job that i think the pro3 should be doing hence not happy

I own one of each filter. The FX5 on my 48"x24"x17" and the 2080 on 48"x18"x25".

Both aggitate the surface quite well... Eheim with the spray bar and Fluval with the two direction outlet(both pointing at the surface).

IMPO, both are great filters and have their pros and cons.

My next large setup will house both. Eheim for strickly bio and Fluval for strickly mech.

fluwho thats all i have to say

if you want a filter that will last you 10+ with no problems buy the eheim

if you live close to a shop that holds lots of fluwho parts then buy that if you want the weeker filter

fluwho have always made cheap budget filters why should the FX5 be any diffrent

fluwhos are like Ducatis the most unreliable machines on the market

they say that 90% of Ducati's ever made are still on the road the other 10% made it home

Only time will tell bro. I've always been an Eheim guy, so there's a green back up in the closet, just in case. :D

for some reason i thought they had a 2128 pro 3. guess i was wrong. do you know if they are comming out with the pro 3 with a built in heater like the 2128 pro 2? i really like the idea of not having to put submersible heaters in my tank without having a sump.

Howdy,

I have the Pro 3 and experienced the same problem regarding floaties. The Eheim filter pads suck. I added extra filter wool. That's much cheaper, and my water is much better now. You should give it a try.

I have no clue how the Pro3 does not agitate the surface enough. Mine is quite powerful and circulates the 220 gal very well. Try positioning the spray bar differently. Also, you should check the flow meter if your pump output is max. Maybe you accidently reduced the flow rate. If your tank is considerably wider than the spray bar is long, you can get an extension kit to customize your filter for your tank size.
