Okay, so last night, I noticed the temp in my 125 was a little high, so I unplugged the heaters (heaters were set for 78, temp was 84). Unfortunately, I had labeled the cords wrong, and one of the "heaters" I unplugged was actually the FX5. Today, I got home and noticed four of my clown loaches were missing, only to find their tails sticking out of the out flow tubes of the FX5. Obviously, it wasn't running... so I shook the tube, and out came my loaches. Figured out it wasn't plugged in. Plugged it in, and nothing happens. The motor isn't even running. Cleaned it, put it back, plugged it in. It sucked in water to fill up, but never started running. It's so wierd that this would happen after I had unplugged it... or maybe it's just a coincidence? Is it dead for sure? Anyone have any tips on what might revive it? I'm thinking it may be a malfunction of the little computer chip. It is currently off; I'm hoping it will somehow reset itself. There are also an xp3 and xp4 running on this tank, so luckily I'm not in dire straits. I'd just like to find out if I've killed my filter.

i honestly dont know if your filter is dead or not, but i can say from experience that this has never happened to me. fluvals are generally pretty resilient so i doubt its dead. but good luck!

Thanks. I looked up the new motors, and they're $140. Not sure if I want to try and replace it, or just get the new Marineland C-530. Granted, the turnover isn't as high, but I run multiple filters on all of my tanks anyway. And, I've had 3 C-360's going strong for two years. Hopefully, someone can give me some tips on whether or not I need to replace the motor at all.

this happened to me once also. unplugged to do a WC and it wouldent go back on after the initial fill up. kept trying for 2-3 days and the same thing. then it literally just started one of the times i tried again, and it never had a problem since then.

im guessing its something to do with the stupid computer inside there.

First, thanks for the ideas. Well, the plug on one of the power strips I have under the tank, and everything else on that particular strip is working. I'll try to plug it in on the other one, just in case it's that particular plug on that particular strip! ...experiment in progress, please hold... Nope, definitely not that. As for your suggestion, IKeepPacu, I'll continue to try plugging it in for a few days... this is good news. Maybe it's just taking a break.

have you tried taking the motor off and making sure the impeller is clean, maybe something got clogged up while it was off.

I haven't tried that yet. I just assumed everything was okay, because it just sat there the whole time. But you're right; it doesn't hurt to check. Thanks -- will do.

Are you missing any more fish? Maybe one is caught in the motor.

When you plug it in, put your ear to the motor and you should atleast hear a hum. I would remove the pump and check it out.

Oh, no. The loaches are the only ones that ever tried it, and I only saw one in the tank, and four came out of the tube! (I have five). So I'm pretty sure it's not this. The other fish aren't nearly as goofy as the loaches.
