Howdy,

As I see it, your first post was at 8:08, the last one at 8:45. And you were posting repeatedly in between. I am not sure how you can seriously say you didn't have time for a water change  We all know that canisters turn toxic after being off for a few hours.

yeah the girlfriend was putting on her makeup, she would have killed me if I started a water change.

LOL

Mine stopped once due to sucking up about a pound of sand. Once cleaning I noticed the motor was loose and slightly out of alignment. If your having continued problems I'd suggest taking it completely apart and cleaning it to the point of pulling the motor off and inspecting the o-rings and alignment.

Take the impellor and motor off and clean. making sure no sand or particles have been
sucked into the impeller and lodging it. I once had this issues and it cleared up after cleaning
it. I have used mine for 8 months with this being the only issue.
I got my newest one off of ebay for 162.49 (new) 192.48 w/shipping. Do tomorrow.

this is why i stick to eheims and aquaclears!

Hate to break it to ya but the company "Hagen" that makes the "Aqua Clear" series is also the producer of the "Fluval" series.

On a side note, I have had my FX5 for a little over a year now, I've had one problem with it. I was cleaning it out realllly good, took the impeller housing apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. When I plugged it in, it didnt run right,..turns out I just put the impeller in wrong. Other then that my FX5 has been up and running flawlessly since. I love it.

Fx5 running over a year now. Mostly new, but with a used pump. I was wswapping parts while doing some mods to it.

I took the motor off and cleaned it again, didn't see and debris in it, I also took out a liter of bio so it's not so packed now.

but it works again, for how long? who knows.
