Ok i just bought a fx5 and set it up on my 180 gal fresh water setup new tank setup. the flow is very weak and the output is unnoticeable. what i used in the three media basket was carbon in the first , biomax in the second and two filter pads in the third at first, there was very little flow so i thought maybe i put to much media in so i took it apart and took some the biomax out and then took the carbon out and replaced it with a fine filter pad in the first biomax in the second and a coarse filter pad in the third and put it back together still no better. I recheck everything the houses the lid i dont get while it isnt working properly can somebody help me out

Pics of your set-up? How far below the tank is the FX5 filter? Did you do the priming sequence? Did it shut off and turn itself back on to purge air? Is their anything lodged in a hose? Have you taken the motor off and examined the impeller?

Try taking the filter pads out too.

The pads shouldn't do what he's describing. I have 3L+ of Matrix, Stock pads, and a Filter Floss pad on top of that and mine will shoot water across the room like a garden hose if I tried to. And I don't even have it set-up as per Fluvals instructions. Mine draws water from a 38G tank below my show tank and puts it back in the show tank.

If you're using a polishing pad, it will clog and reduce flow. Don't use them. They clog within a week of being cleaned. I'm not sure what exactly you mean by "Filter pad." I'm assuming you mean the fine polishing pads.

My polishing pad doesn't clog for a month...

So it depend on your individual setup really

I said TRY taking the filter pads out. There's no harm in trying. Since none of us are there we are just suggesting different things to try to get it working. I don't necessarily think it's the filter pads causing the issue but it's just another thing to try. You guys need to get off the computer for a bit I think.

I dont have pics of my setup but its a 18o gal with a metal stand so the fx5 is directly behind it on the ground and i followed the directions , so i put in 2 gallons of water before i started the filter fastened everything tightend every thing and plugged it in it bubbled up from the intake and starting filling up and everything i hear it work but the output is terrible i had to put my hand in front of it to make sure there was some coming out and it is very little
