FX5 flow rate issue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What i did was made sure my trays were all lined up properly and put the filter floss in the second tray instead of the trop tray. That actually helped.

i will clean the impeller over the weekend

really? i thought the out valve was on the top thats why it was getting clogged.

filter floss is cheap thats why i'm using it. should i be using pads? what other cheap media can i use?

So after reading this post I get the impression that some of you don't use filter floss or any type of mechanical filter media other than the course pads in the media trays. I'm having a bit of an issue of doing maintenance every 3 weeks on my fx5 because my mechanical filter pads get clogged to quickly. I was thinking of not using any filter floss but just relying on the course media pads and the pre-filter media that fluval sells.

top basket i use ceramic rings, bottom 2 trays matrix. I replaced the supplied foam surrounding the baskets with 30ppi foam. My waters near crystal. I never, ever put foam in basket

I use filter floss

I'm not really sure what is supposed to go where. I have 2 fx5's running with a s*** load of bio media.

My water is always crystal clear

What else can you use for mechanical. I don't think i use anything for mechanical.

Can someone gives examples of that?

I own 3 of these and cleaning them is easy. I have 2 of them on a 180 gallon very heavy stock tank, I clean mine about 2-4 months and I only use bio-max in all 3 trays and on the bottom I use one blue pad I don't have any problems and I love these pumps. Time frame is about 30min to clean a pump.

Doesn't the water flow from the top to the bottom on the fx5? Wouldn't be better to put the blue pad on the top basket?
