In a dream
Just got my FX5 and trying to plan everything out. Plan on using some vinyl hosing. Question is what size hosing would i need? I though i read 1" ID but wanted to be sure? Also any other advice or recommendations is appreciated. Thanks.

Also what is everyones input as far as the filtration pads. Ive seen the white one and a blue one. Which one does everyone use? Thanks.

Yes, 1" ID hosing. I use hose barbs for custom plumbing on FX5's. Make sure you get hose clamps, you'll need to tighten them down fairly well.

Thx...any pics of your modification?

Whatever you do.... the 1" ID spa hose found at a lot of hardware store will not work. The reinforcing ring on the hose prevents you from getting the hose tight enough on the FX5 connectors to keep it from leaking. Just trust me on this one. LOL

Haha...ok thx. Planned on using vinyl hosing because that is what i seen on most mods. So vinyl is ok right?

Yes, it should be fine.

I used vinyl on my Fx5. Works great. May I ask why your converting to Vinyl?

Only use the pads if you want to polish you water and remove them after a week or so. They clog up VERY quickly.

Replace the sponges on the outside of the basket with 20ppi foam from the link in my signature and you will have clearer water without clogging

I definately dont want to use the hoses that come with the FX5. I have seen other FX5 mods with hosing so i definately wanted to do the same. Any particular reason why you are asking why i am converting to vinyl?

Sure thing, I had to dig through 70+ pages of my overhaul thread :screwy: but I finally found em.. The tank is a 120 gallon plumbed through the bottom via bulkhead fittings (overflows inside the tank). It has 1-1/4" ID drains and 3/4" ID returns. I split the FX5 plumbing to run two in, two out so I could add an inline heater on one return and UV on the other (neither pictured though sorry) I used hose barb fitting toi reduce and enlarge the hose diameter to match up with the 1" ID hose going to the FX5.

Hope that makes sense. GL ;)

Hey we have another Justin in the house ^

Well the tubing that comes with the Fx5 is fine to use. Some convert to vinyl thinking it will increase the flow but it won't. Thats all.
