Hey folks, yesterday I did a wc/vac and I cleaned out my FX5, all was well but this morning I woke up and my FX5 was makeing the swooshing sound like air was leaking in. However it only dose it for about 5 sec then quiet for about 30 then it swooshes again. No air bubbels comeing out so I dont think there is an actual leak. I did however add a little baggie of peat in the top tray which made a slight hump in the media, could this be causing cavitation makeing the swooshing sound? too much media? There are NO leaks and NO air bubbels, just a intermittent swooshing sound.

i have a fx5 and have not had any issues as of yet, but you mentioned that if one experiences bubbles, it means there is a leak or air in the system. what should one do if he does notice bubbles? thanks to all, in advance.

This article states cavitation is possible.

Its funny when people have their plumbing system all glued together and they back the flow down with a ball valve they get the bubbles.

Without extensive testing, this can not be ruled out nor can it be ruled in.

I am sure you can find an article in the internet that states that cows can fly. That doesn't mean we need 3D fencing around pastures. And it doesn't mean MFK staff tolerates the intentional or unintentional spreading of false information.

Cavitation can be ruled out by many factors. Number one, trust the one member who works at a water treatment facility and knows the phenomenon. Number two, trust another member with extensive laboratory experience and advanced degrees in natural sciences. Number three, just do the math. And the list goes on.

Science and experience rule out cavitation in a canister filter. I am going to leave it at that and so should you.
