So my fx5 showed up today and I might have gone a little crazy with media, but I order a few of most everything just to try out and see whats works best.

What would your tray placement be for biomax, prefilter, zeo-carb, fine filter pads and polishing pads.

I was thinking biomax on the top with polishing pads, prefilter on the bottom, and zeo-carb in the middle with the fine pads?

The filter works top to bottom...

Coarse filtration (mechanical) on top....

Biological + fine filtration on the bottom

I run the blue pad with the Efimech on top and 2 trays of substrat-pro with a fine pad on top of the bottom tray.

I have 2 more weeks before another flow test with my FX5, I will also make a video after the flow test with the contents of the filter.

Why not use the polishing pads? I use them and my tank is super healthy/clean. The white one's clog up after a month or so...so they get spendy. The blue ones last a bit longer. But the white one's really get that water shinning!

Mech then bio then polish

Using ehfimech or prefilter in the trays of a FX5 is just wasting media space. Since the ehfimech or prefilter is placed after the sponges which are a finer form of mechanical media, the ehfimech or prefilter serves no real purpose.

My tank is super super CLEAR/HEALTHY without the polishing pads! And i don't need to clean the filter every few weeks just because of the polishing pads!:)

i hear ya puntoturbo. I think I'll be slower switching it over to all bio max soon.
