The only thing an FX5 should have

^Ditto! That is what I am running in both my FX5's with the addition of some batting on top of my last tray to polish the water. I change it out every 3-4 weeks.

Matrix in the bottom, scrubbies and Substrate Pro in the second and third

Bottom: Matrix
Middle: Chemi-pure elite
Top: Renew

Thinking of going to a purigen/nitrozorbe mix in the top bin

Although the only water issue I actually have is higher than I would prefer TDS/EC and ph.

PH Generally speaking
...and I've had discuss, so I know about a ton of exceptions as well
You're more likely to harm your fish then help them if you try to stabilize PH chemically. Unless you're Johnny on the spot the inherent fluctuations of chemically controlled PH causes more biological stress on your fish than elevated but stable PH stable I've got the Brown diatom bluescomes out of the tap.

TDS/ EC
Both Coming back high on my digital Hanna meter and I've got the the Brown Diatom blues on an established tank

....So what I actually need to is a phosphate killer/reactor etc. And it is clearly overlOrderg the chemi-pure

:-(

Wow, need more sleep fell asleep halfway through post.

Slighty more coherent this morning (although on the run again).

My thought is that the phosphates/silica is overcoming the chemi-pure and I'm going need to either add a phosphate reactor (MR1, etc.) or bite the bullet and install an ROI filter.

Oy vey
