FX5 Media,What Where

i did search and got conflicting stuff, i have a fx5 i got for my 120g and i am going to be using biomax and carbon in it i wanna know what layers of the baskets to put what also may throw in some bio balls where should they go

No bioballs. They are for wet/dry sumps.

Biomax is made of ceramic, while bio balls are made of a plastic material. Why can't bio balls be used in an FX5? I don't understand how the efficacy of bioballs can be questioned when compared to Biomax. I would think that both products would allow for a satisfactory result. Are you implying that biological bateria is more attracted to ceramic, versus plastic?

don't think you can fit enough bioballs in FX5 to have the equal amount of surface area for BB as compare to ceramic bio media. cheapest is to load the FX5 with some nylon pot scrubbers, all 3 chambers. those nylon pot scrubbers have tons of surface area for the BB to grow on.
