Hahaha! I have to agree. I have not bought one yet but from what I have seen the power from these monster filters. That would just be overkill for a 55 gal. , imo.

Are your mbuna rheophilic? If not, I would not recommend an FX5 on a 55g tank unless you're going to choke its flow, which may put undesirable strain on the motor.

If you can see poop sitting on your sand, why not siphon it out instead of hoping for it to get sucked into your filter?
If you siphon the poop out you remove that solid waste before it gets broken down by your filter and pollutes your water.
