Fx5 on my 150g

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im sure the fx5 on the 150 would be fine depending on stocking levels. Concentrate on your water flow in the tank. Make best use of this trying not to leave stagnant areas of water. Powerheads really help with this. Check out the korillia powerheads.

I use an fx5 on a 75g but thats it. No emp 400. been using it for years with great results. Had a noise problem once, sand in the impeller. big pain but none the less. I take it apart once or twice a year. And its still not even that dirty. haha.

I agree 100%. I was anti-sump until I bought a 220 off CL that came with one. Now I have one on everything 55g and up. Sump+cannister=sparkling water and happy fishies!

OP your setup will be perfectly fine, keep us posted if you do get the FX5. I love reading reviews and seeing installs!

Lol I wouldnt have a problem with a sump i just dont have anyroom and if you can only use a sump by drilling holes into your tanks I cant do that either lol. I'll let you guys know if I get it thanks.

Yeah I have 2 powerheads in my 150 right now, however I only have one plugged in because the other one wont reach the outlet

You don't need to drill your tank to use a sump. You can buy an overflow that hangs on the back such as the ones made by CPR or you can DIY one out of pvc pretty easy. Of course, that does not give you more room for the sump itself.

I didnt no that lol. I thought you still had to drill holes

wait a second lol, When I go home I'm puppysitting britts dog right now... If I take pics and give you guys the dimesions could you tell me everything I would need to build a sump or buy one or w.e. lol?

You need to measure the inside of your stand. Any tank that'll fit in there will work. Of course the bigger the better. I guess technically you don't have to put it under the tank. I used a 40 gallon breeder to make a sump for a 180 gallon. I got a filter sock holder from bulk reef supply and ordered some 25 micron 7 x 16 filter socks from Mcmaster-Carr. I bought a bunch of seachem matrix and put it in those delicatds wash bags you can get from walmart. Just put the matrix between the inflow and the pump, so the water flows through the media. I'm going to use a Mag-Drive 18 for the return pump. I'm currently still waiting on the aquarium to put it all together. I got the sump idea from the member jcardona1 and it seems like the simplest setup.

I've never used a hob overflow, so besides getting on that will handle the flow you want. Also you have to have your tank a little ways from the wall to make room for it, so I don't know if that's an issue. Someone else could tell you which is the best quality and most reliable.
