Ok, I have about $200 to spend on an upgrade to my 125 gallon planted discus tank, I don't want crazy amounts off current but I want really good bio and mechanical...............right now I have a fluval 405 and an aquaclear 110 running along with a sponge filter.............everything works pretty good, but I have some extra money and was looking at other canisters. So, used, new, eheim, fluval?? what?:)

Man there is A thread somewhere on here that talks about an fx5 and an eheim. I wish I knew where it was, but it was cool. The eheim won. Can someone else tell him where that thread is?

I'm not a fan of the Rena's. And there's only room on one side of my stand. I can't do two filters. Anyone have experience with the FX5 vs. smaller eheims?

I use an FX5 on my 100G-its powerful and I think for your planted tank you'll probably find it blows your plants around. It also shifts the sand around away from the glass in mine.
correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you're not meant to have large flow in a planted tank?

Correct, I'm wanting more bio, and a little more flow, so I'm wondering if for the price, it makes sense to get the FX5 and adjust the flow down, or get an Eheim because of the extra capacity for bio..............any opinions? I'm leaning towards the eheim, but the FX5 is huge and seems like I could use it too??
