Really considering resetting up one of my 75's since I have no tanks setup at the moment. Only thing I cannot decide on is how to filter it, either FX5 or custom 30gallon long sump. I already have everything to do either just wanting some opinions!

Tank has two holes drilled in the back for either setup as well. What would you do? Not 100% on stock yet either but doubt I'll over stock it.

FX5. Any pics of the holes? Not all drilled holes cna be used for canisters easily.

I find sumps a little complicated, and just to be simpler I chose the Fx5.

Go w a sump. Not sure why so many ppl are totally for all these canisters, probably because they truly don't understand the ease of a sump! I was that way once but will never go back to a canister!

I am all for sump for many reasons. Ease if maintenance, cleaner than having those ugly ribbed hoses hanging in your tank along w the heater, more options for media etc etc etc

Have you ever used one?

Mechanical filtration is very important in freshwater tanks, and more effective in a canister. With high quality biomedia (not cheapo pot scrubbers and similar DIY cheapo options) you can get biological filtration in a canister that is at least as good as that of a sump, unless the sump uses a Biowheel (not bioballs).

I have used both. IME a properly sized canister can handle a given tank better than a sump.
