FX5 or sump for 75gallon tank

Except that the water goes up the outer ring and down the center ring in the FX5s...that is why the fine mechanical media goes in the top center tray to get as many particulates out before it has a chance to clog the biomedia.

The overall flow in a sump will not be reduced, but the flow where it matters most (through the media) will. This allows for bypass. Bypassed water is not cleaned.

Simply stating that a sump is better and that the pros are greater with sumps over and over doesn't make it any more true.

Ok you're right about the fx5, the xp series flow from the bottom to the top. Regardless, how is the media in a sump getting clogged faster than a canister? Especially since 99% of sumps are setup w mechanical before the bio. This assumption still doesn't make sense. What is true is that when a canister is clogged it flows less, meaning less water is flowingover the media. Again, you do not have this w sumps

A sump doesn't clog faster than a canister. With a sump as soon as the mechanical media is clogged at all the water just goes around it and doesn't get cleaned. Dirty media is good, it means it is doing its job of collecting debris. Open up the FX5 and lay down that media next to what you pull out of a sump and tell me the FX5 isn't dirtier.
