Got my fx5 yesterday ($190 on ebay :headbang2) and hooked it up. I've noticed my fish don't seem to wild about the current that I'm getting...and my tank's wide rim meant I had to fart around with the rim clips to get everything working right anyway. So what I was thinking about was having my fx5's output hose empty into a big bucket of scrubbies or some other biomedia and then just have it pour into my tank. Has anyone tried this, and what did you use for the biotower if you did? I've got a small w/d running already so I don't need the extra filtration, but I figure it can't hurt.

ITS HARD TO SEE ANY OUTPUT pressure on the fx-5..I thought i would see a wicked noticeable difference but no, i actually called fluval...you see pressure when it expels it air every 24 hours...if you do it that way it would be good i ..I do that with my sump, i have 3 pumps in my sump one for the ouput toward s the tank and one to go back over the bio-balls a 2nd time and the other to go into a huge bag full mini bio-balls....so im over-filtrating....

same here I see no real pressure from this filter on my 240 but on my 110 it was great dont understand it i was thinking of connecting my return to a long piece of 2" pvc drill all over and make a spray bar what do you think of this???????

What an interesting idea ... i am gonna do that ^_^

There is no such thing as over-filtration lol

Oh I'm definitely getting pressure...when my fish swim by the current I can see them kind of slide a little, like a person getting hit with a gust of wind. My gar definitely doesn't like it, he's staying on the other side of the tank where the water's still. So I was thinking doing the trickle deal would cut that and give me more bio at the same time.

yeah I was going to maybe go even a lil bit bigger with the pvc and stuff it with bio balls hows that I might post some pics here if anyone is interested!

You can partially close the outlet valve that leads out of the filer itself to slow down the current. I remember reading that in the instructions.

Well I like the turnover...the pvc with biomedia idea is a good one, might try playing around with that.

I've thought of making a spraybar too-just to get the flow distributed better
