Fx5 problems, help please.

Hi all,
One of my Fx5's isn't working, I think its something to do with the impeller.
It is not taking in water, and makes a gurgling/grinding noise, apon start up.
any advice would be great.

did u pour like 2 gallons in it b4 starting it up

Have you opened it up to check nothing has got stuck near the pump. The hole into the pump is pretty small considering the outlet so I guess something could be stuck. I am sure this is not it but mine makes a terrible noise if I forget to open the taps after cleaning. I have had other filters that make that noise when there is air stuck in the impeller but this doesn't seem to be a problem with my FX5 I would just give it a shake to make sure.

Clean the impeller and report back.

suck in on the output to get the siphon started.... mine needed a little help getting started but works great now.. once the siphon is started the canister will fill and air bubbles will begin exiting the output tube, then eventually begin to pour out water.

I opened up the pump to find it had quite large peices of gravel stopping the impeller.
not sure how it got there as my 180 is without a substrate, but yeah, all fixed.

I used a large spong pre-filter on the intake.
A filter that strong, always need to be careful what goes into it.

Same thing happened to me, but it was actually small pieces of subtrat pro bio media I neglected to put in mesh bags, so a few pieces fell though the screen and jammed the impeller.

Found a pic, LOL.
