For better circulation, just at a power head...better than the spray bar anyway.

The vinyl hose you are using isn't re-enforced? The reason I am asking is the bend it makes over the tank would likely cause as much GPH loss as a 90 degree sweeping 3/4" elbows. I haven't tested GPH with the spray bar but I doubt it is much less than with that dual nozzle that comes with the filter. I was looking for better spread and stronger current but keep in mind I have mine running on a smaller tank. I know the current with the spray bar versus the nozzle is so much better it really shows what this filter is capable of doing. I think also what makes the spray bar more effective as far as current is the pressure it creates like putting your finger over a water hose tip. So I imagine that would sacrifice GPH a bit but probably only marginally. I would be interested to either run a GPH test on this myself or if someone else already has I would be interested in seeing the numbers. Cool stuff.I agree with the hosing issue, all you need is 1" Id hosing, and the stock ribbed hosing slows down gph as well. Here's a 15$ way of adding performance to your fx5, plus the clear hosing makes it just look cool too!
I like the spray bar idea but I feel like all the 90degree bends hinder the flow, less bends, less length equals more flow and with my fx5 on a 125 I need all the gph I can get

So with the reinforced vinyl tubing you can make the 180* over the rim like the factory tubing?
Regular 1" vinyl kinks if you do anything more then a 90, so my intake tube is mounted on the front glass pane to avoid a huge bend and kink, and the output hose is right on the water line so there is no bend < then 50ish degrees plus no dual outputs just a straight 1" pipe, the tubes look like a C from the canister to the tank, not necessarily the most pretty way but in terms of performance I have no significant bends and my flow is noticeably increased!
I'm out of town so I will show you pics on Monday, and I'm not sure if the reinforced pipe can bend 90 or not.

You would think the engineers at Hagen would see these issues also and correct the problems?? After all is it not the job of the engineer to design new models and correct problems with current models I think thats what they are paid for. You folks with a good mind for improvements should be getting paid by Hagen for doing something they should be doing on there own? With few exceptions as you will have a occational bad unit the filter should do all this right out of the box not be reengineered to make it work at its full potential or at the very least make these available as aftermarket options. I have never been hidden,I'm not a fan of this filter but I use two until I get rich or have a windfall so to say

Why? The filter sells just fine as it is. With the majority of owner being completely satisfied with it. Hagen would be stupid in a business sense to mess with it.
Sorry!!! I can never remember which forums are the ones where theres a ton a fans that are die hard YEAH!!!!FX5 Is the UBER Filter!!!! when in truth it has many issues, havn't you been reading the post of this forum lately or do I read another lanuage? Why do you not see all these posts that are asking about 2262 problems or Rena problems but you see a FX5 issue on this forum almost daily. I was trying above to nicely say that people like Razor and others who have made all these improvements should get credit. If I was with Hagen I'd be looking to fix a filter that seems to have many design flaws just as it is or do I need to stuff some duct tape in one of the trays to stop the massive bypass. I'm sorry I am the first to say I'm at fault and I don't like to be rude, but at the same time I call a spade a spade and don't pretend it's perfect with no issues when there are many!!!! I own two FX5 until I can afford the Eheims to replace them. And no even the Eheims are not perfect.
