Hey guys. I'm having some trouble with my new fx5. It was working perfectly for the first few days that I had it, but now it's not...It sounds like it has air trapped inside of it, it's spitting out a ridiculous amount of micro bubbles, and there is hardly any flow. The output is only a few inches from the surface, pointed directly at the surface, and it's making no surface tension...that's how little water it's pumping out.
I have unplugged it and plugged it back in a million times now, took it apart, cleaned the impeller like the guy at support told me to do...nothing changed. The only media I have in there is the 6 sponges on the outside of the baskets and 5 boxes of biomax, the valves are all the way open, the input/output connections are all underwater, I don't understand why it's not working!! It's starting to really piss me off.

Two nights ago it decided to start working perfectly again, but when I woke up in the morning it was back to not working right.

Help?

Oh, it also seems to be sucking in a lot of air. After running all night it'll spit out quite a few large bubbles.

Theres your problem, the bubbles are caused because its sucking in the air. If you can find where this is happening and seal it there will be no more problem

Have you checked the hoses thoroughly and the valves to make sure nothing is trapped in them? Also look closely at the input line the full length. It sounds like a small amount of air is entering and making the system lose prime. It most likely is coming in through suction some where in the input line.

A pinhole in your intake line? It would suck in air but wouldn't leak.

Just took off the intake hose&valve, put them underwater(full of air), plugged one end and blew on the other and no air came out anywhere on the hose. Put it back on, made sure to tighten the silver clamp thingy nice and tight, and it's still doing the same thing it was before.
Could air be leaking in through the output hosing?

There should be a sub-forum for the main stream filters like Fluval, Eheim and Aquaclears.. they are such a common topic.. We could call it "Setup and Filtration" or something similar..

lol, no way

Is the connection of the hose to the intake tube underwater? If not adjust it so that it is underwater. Mine often will get knocked loose by one of the arowana, it doesn't cause me a problem until during a WC the waterline drops below this connection.
