Fx5 problems

Junk is Junk you can't make a chevy chevette into a corvette, for the canister the 110 is a good filter so lets do this with ither hob's or canisters. Marineland has been around for years and the bio wheel line is also popular. Now I will stop with my issue with the fluval canisters with the post frankly because I was thinking last night why am I wasting my time with this. By this time next year my filter systems will be all Eheim. While your at it include the system admins comment or get him to chime into the survey, the sheer number of issue threads don't lie and I bet less then 10% even had my name appear in them so keep grabbing at straws. Same way with this filter as well. The water is filtered before it reaches the pump. The pump is on the bottom but the water is filtered first. The water exits the pump and immediately leaves the FX5.

Sort of. You still have gravity to contend with and some sediment can make it through to the bottom where the pump sits. The cans I use brings water in the top, moves it to the bottom first, then back up to the top mounted pump. There is a sediment tray on the bottom to catch sand, etc before it starts filtering upwards.

I get what you're saying though, for sure as most particles will be filtered first.....

lol. I Love my ac110, had issues with fx5s... Take it as it comes. Everything can be improved on in a diffrent way to each person.

Yeah....I honestly believe that the best design I have seen all around is the marineland C series and Aquatop CF series filters. Just so easy to maintain. I can't speak to the durability since they have only been on the market a short time but I have two and really like them. I wish they had a model capable of doing the same GPH as a 2262 or FX5. Holds tons of media and I absolutely love the quick disconnect. Just lift one lever and the hoses are disconnected with no issue. Very basic and simple.

I have the SunSun version of the same filter. They make the AT and Marineland as well. Seems pretty decent especially for the $.

The quick disconnect is very similar to the Rena's and one of the main reasons I tried one. I love that disconnect....

I either have to have the factory 180* or would have to build something outta PVC 90s. So most likely just stick with stock.

What about a compromise? Maybe try something with 45* elbows. Just brainstorming really. I might have to do something like this the next time I set mine up as I broke the 180* "holders" when I tried to take them off the tank.

I can never remember which forums are the ones where theres a ton a fans that are die hard YEAH!!!!FX5 Is the UBER Filter!!!! when in truth it has many issues, havn't you been reading the post of this forum lately or do I read another lanuage? Why do you not see all these posts that are asking about 2262 problems or Rena problems but you see a FX5 issue on this forum almost daily. I was trying above to nicely say that people like Razor and others who have made all these improvements should get credit. If I was with Hagen I'd be looking to fix a filter that seems to have many design flaws just as it is or do I need to stuff some duct tape in one of the trays to stop the massive bypass. I'm sorry I am the first to say I'm at fault and I don't like to be rude, but at the same time I call a spade a spade and don't pretend it's perfect with no issues when there are many!!!! I own two FX5 until I can afford the Eheims to replace them. And no even the Eheims are not perfect.

This is a post made just recently by the system administrator on the FX5. Just wanted to include this for the record. OK I'm done back to the issues at hand just found this and wanted to include it.

I've been lucky enough to not have to get too involved in these arguments as of late, but I guess now is the time.

The FX5 is one of the most highly used and regarded filters on this site. It has great flow and is easy on the pocket book when you need to filter a large tank with little effort. And no, I am not some "Uber Filter Club" member. I have bought 4 or more of these filters and they have all worked flawlessly. I'm sure that there are the occasional issue as with any mass manufactured product. This doesn't mean that they are junk. As stated, there are a variety of reasons why these filters can have issues, many of which are human error. Same could be said for the Rena XP series of filters. Some love them, some hate them. They've been great filters for me, but I have had more of those filters fail than anything else. Doesn't mean I have to instigate arguments about the filters everytime they are mentioned. Maybe instead of arguing, one could take it to task to inform others about issues to keep an eye on.

And since I've taken the task of responding, I'll add this. I find the term "Uber Filter Club" to be designed as a derogatory insult towards those that like and support FX5 filters. Everyone has a right to an opinion and the ability to defend it. Please discontinue use of this term.
