FX5 SUPPORT IMPRESSION.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes the pictures are the equipment that came with the filter. The instructions on page 7 and 8 clearly say to tighten the clamp I did not tighten it allot to me anyone can see those edges inside that clamp are very sharp.

I have two FX5's on my 210g and am very happy with them. I only used the stock hose on the intake. I did a custom tubing and homemade spray bars for the output. I have had zero problems. Sorry to hear about your filter problem.

Fx5 are junk always have been to. Heard to many horror story's about them. Never liked them. Replaced them with a good old fashion sump

Have owned 4, still run 2 FX5s never have had an issue. Sorry to hear of your issues OP, no product is bullet proof. If damage is extensive your homeowners insurance may cover the damage costs.

Thanks everyone I know there is probably mixed opinions out there with this. You know I still intend to use my FX5 I'm just afraid whats to stop the replacment parts from doing the samething. I promise you (for you folks that are saying do not overtighten that this has not been the case) Those edges rip into the rubber underneath the clamp you cant see it. So I'm going to the hardware store, you would think the engineers would be smart enough to design a better clamp system heck even the Marineland which I hate the standard input and output provided is a better system. Which by the way Marineland has far better support to Hagen it like night and day.

I've had good experiences with Hagan phone support, but I'm not happy with my FX5 overall. It's had far more problems and stopped working far more times than I had expected. It's a finicky filter and not a very reliable one in my experience.

My vendor was great and helped me out I've shipped that puppy back yesterday within one hour after I got off the phone. All hagen wants to cover if you read there fine print is the motor parts and not the rest of the filter. I swear I wasn't rude to them until the end when she started to give me a hard time over replacing the few defective parts they made a big deal over a tiny clip. And you know what in the end I think my remaining Marineland is built every bit as good and there support is beyond excellent.

Sorry hawk, misunderstanding, didn't notice Sharp edges, just use industrial zip tie then. Love my fx5 running 6 months not one problem.

Most the probs with the fx5 are micro bubbles which can be easily fixed or second hand units which you can never know if its reliable.

I had so many issues with my xp4, that my fx5 is a god send.

Love my FX5 filters I have two of them. Good luck with getting it back up and running. The hose clamps don't need to be so tight that you are cutting into the rubber.
