Just bought and set up? It's likely that is your problem. The filter needs to cycle. Your 1500 is cycled, but the fx5 needs to colonize and grow bacteria.

A note for fx5 usage: Use ceramic beads and the like, not the polishing pads or scrubbies. Scrubbies packed in tight can reduce flow. I have had best results with ceramic beads as they do not clog up or significantly reduce flow. Clogged baskets lead to burping/low output fx5s.

ok here is the low down on what i have in both filters for media and my tank and all that....

i have a 120 gallon tank,
FX5 set-up 24 hours with ceramic rings, bio-balls, carbon, and carbon with amonia remover,
Cascade 1500 has same stuff and the pads recomened for it minus the bio balls
i have one 8" pbass,
one 10" florida/spotted gar
one 12" african pike characin
one 8" geo jurapari

in the tank i have crushed coral mixed in with my gravel to stabilize the ph, two pieces of driftwood medium size, one plastic plant

my water params are normal all the way around i dont get it

give it time (a week at least) then if that doesn't work add a polishing pad to the FX5 i got one in my 125 and its clear as can be idk if the pad helped but i know i got one and i know my tank it clear

yeah i dont know, ive had a problem for a while actually ever since i got my 120, i tried accruel that didnt work im out of ideas... i do a water change every week sometime every two weeks based upon my work schedule

I agree, you need time. Have you tested the water? You might have an algae bloom. There are lots of causes to cloudy water, not all of which are tied to the filter. You were underfiltered with the 1500, so the fx5 WILL help, but it might not effect the cloudiness if it is an algae bloom.

sounds like your tank isnt cycled, by the sounds of it the Cascade doesnt haven enough bio media for the tank; now with the FX5 you might have enough.

dont have a test kit for algea however i do have a treatment for that i havent applied in a while so ill try that

Find someone with a healthy established tank and then ask if you can run one of your filters on that tank for 24 hours or more.

Whatever you do try not to use anything that claims to clear 'cloudiness'. Although effective for a day, once the chemical bond is broken you will be back where you started.

Also, how much water are you changing at onetime?
