I recently purchased a used Fx5 and thought I had it completed but after looking at the users manual I see foam along the outside of all the baskets. I have been searching online to purchase them but cannot seem to find them? Does anyone know the exact name? Also I want to know if my media is setup properly? Mind you I'm just using the Fx5 for filtration. On the top basket I have Eheim Substrat, and on the bottom two I have the Fluval pre filter media. Sorry I'm quite new to cannister filters, Thanks in advance.

all that is is pre-filter media, just use a piece of filter pad in the top basket and use bio-media of your choice in the middle and bottom, the water normally flows through the foam on the sides and then through the top, middle, then bottom and back into the tank

I have a lot of Eheim ehfisubstrat pro will that work? for the bottom two trays? Thanks

THE PRE-FILTER IS USELESS IN THE FX5 , THATS WHAT THE FOAM IS FOR . GET MORE BIO MEDIA OR CARBON

They actually hold a lot of bio media. I made the mistake of ringing mine out clean once, and it whacked out my tank for a couple days..

To the op, that sucks you didn't get that.. I looked in my manual and it doesn't show those in the replacement parts.. Fluval's customer service number is 1-800-724-2436 between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. eastern.

I just rinse the sponges in tankwater, never had to replace em...

Look in my sig. 20 PPI foam sheet (Fine Particle). You will have sponges for a life time. You could make over 35-40 sponges out of the 2'x6' sheet. :)
