Can the Valve on the output be closed a little to reduce flow? I know that it will reduce the effectiveness of the filter however I want the flow to be less to allow for more dwell time in the UV sterilizer. I just don't want to hurt the filter in anyway. Thanks!

Tank Setup-
150 Tall
2 Fx5's
36 Watt Turbo Twist Sterilizer

Restricting the flow rate of almost all canister filters will damage the motor except in the case of the fx5...the electronic motor control adjusts the impeller speed to match the throughput so the pumps never fighting itself. I'm planning to use 2 of them on the new 8 foot tank as soon as it's set up along with a pair of E400's

i was told to never starve the pump. only close the out. I think. Someone told me that one here once.

normally that would be true but the control module in the fx5 adjusts the pump so that it doesn't really mater.

Well I did it last night and came home tonight and everything is fine from what I see? Flow is not nearly as strong as the wide open FX5 on the other side of the tank...

Are you sure that the FX5 slows the impeller speed? I have one and when adjusting the output slower, you can hear the motor load up. I just leave it wide open.

The first time I changed some of the media on my FX5, I didn't completely opened the "exit" side all the way. I noticed the next day that it was flowing pretty slowly, and then opened it up all the way. No problems, but I would keep it open all the way.
