Sorry I am not familiar of how "the water pressure would probably just the water through the line" will keep the filter from leaking. What is "just the water"? Sorry if you feel insulted but your post makes no sense. Did you by chance read what you wrote?

Sorry I guess I'm the jerk. Lol. In meant since the 180 would be below the water level the water pressure from the tank would probably push the water through the line to the filter.

You might think 2 fx5s would be overkill but it's not. On my 210 I have an fx5 and Rena xp4. I just added 2 aquaclear 110s because I was getting tired of opening and cleaning the canisters every week or two. I have 15 new world cichlids all between 3 and 8 inches. Most of them closer to 3 or 4 inches. They arent all staying in there but the ones that do when they get big will probably need more filtration. I might end up with 3 fx5s and three aquaclear 110s eventually.

I have an FX5 plumbed through bulkhead fittings on the bottom of the tank, works great.. To answer the OP's question.

I Plugged the holes on my overflow and put the inlet in there and heaters works great. According to the fx5 manual the intake has to be 18 inches above the filter for the siphon to work. I highly recommend the fx5 I have to that run a 300 along with a 50 gallon sump.

Now were getting somewhere. This is the main question I had. You say it works great. Do you have any pics by any chance.

The intake on my FX5 is pulling water out of the bottom of my sump that is right next to it on the floor and putting the water back in my 150G tank that is about 4' above the FX5.

Th start the FX5 I use a gravel vac and start a siphon from the main tank into the FX5 inlet line in the sump. Then I kick the FX5 on and wait until it's done it's first purge. Then I pull the Gravel vac and Voila.

Mike

PS: I am sure I am not getting the same Flow rates that I would get if the FX5 was pulling right from the Main tank. But this works for me.

Sounds good. Do you have any pics of your setup for people like me that need a visual?

Here Ya Go.
Basically, My DIY Overflow dumps into the Tank below through a Filter Sock. My Breeding Cons are in that tank. The FX5 draws water out of the tank and returns to 1" PVC back to the main tank. The Mag Drive is also plumbed into the same 1" PVC.

So Mavrick, i'm not able to see any hoses going into the tank. Is yours plumbed from the bottom or am I just not seeing it? Sorry to be a pain in the crapper. What i'm really wanting to no is, can the fx5 be plumbed through the bottom of the tank. I'm getting conflicting stories. Some people say yes, others say No. My tank is drilled on the left and right corners of the tank. No overflows at all. So, I want to plumb it this way. keep it clean. You no?

Yes it will work. When JK47 says something, I wouldn't question it. He knows what he's talking about. And my uncle used to run his 125 through the bottom, and it worked great. Go for it.
