Funny, when criticism is discussed, you're the one to call it quits ("smart" pump performance automatically reduced, an FX5 user who added fluidized sand biofiltration to his FX5 set-up, another one reporting shaky parts, ...).:

i try not to miss any Fx5 posts - I thought I got them all - I could use a link if I missed any

I own one 2260 and two FX5's. Fluval wins overall - great pump output, good features, easy to maintain. Eheim - great build quality, very quiet, almost silent, not as easy to maintain. I have been fishkeeping 30 years, and swore in 1992 after two Fluval 303's kept breaking I would never have another, from then until this year I would not entertain the thought of buying anything other than Eheim, and I have had 2213, 2215, 2217, 2028 and the most powerful one they ever made the 2234. Som it was a big step to buy (2) FX5's this year, but let's face it, they have used a lot of the Eheim features which were out 15 plus years ago in this filter anyway. My only reservation is long term reliablilty. My 2234 was running for 4 years with not a single fault. Time will tell...

dixon, so before you said the eheim was a better filter, but now because you own an FX5 - you believe it to be the better filter ;)

well the question is which one would you buy and i have one fx5 set up and another coming friday so i only answered truthfully.
never owned an eheim 2260 so cant comment on it but i would have bought a pro111 eheim if it fit my stand but it does not.
do i think eheim make better filters them yes they probably do but i like the fx5 it works really well.
