fx5 wont start

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow, I was just about to post this same exact question. I had the same issue yesterday. I bought it about a month ago. Cleaned it out for the first time, plugged it back in and nothing. It is not starting at all. Fortunately I have a wet/dry running as well. I guess I'll have to give them a call. Is there a reset/start button or something? Just wanted to make sure I'm not forgetting something basic, but per the directions I don't think I am.

did you guys open remember to open the valves?

i have 2 FX5's on tanks with sand and have had this problem before. My hubby cleans the media, hooks it back up and NOTHING. if you hear the motor running, its usually a piece of sand stuck in the impeller--take it back apart and clean it really good and hook it back up. we've had to do this a few times and its always been sand being the culprit (guess we have been lucky so far!)

beside that minor problem i love the FX5's.

exsqueeze me?

I have had no problem with my FX5, its going strong for almost 2 years now.

It also only takes me roughly 10mins to clean my FX5, and trickle filters suck at mechanical filtration, while the FX5 is Awesome at Mechanical and Good at Bio-filtration so really get the best of both worlds with an FX5...
i agree with you id rather use my fx5 thank you! thanks guys for all the helpful input. after doing all that i could think of and reading my directions i was lost. however after asking others that were knowledgeable about fx5s i have solved my problem. thanks to all who helped. punto turbo here is what you should do KEEP YOUR FRIGGIN MOUTH SHUT SINCE IT IS BETTER TO BE THOUGHT A FOOL THEN TO REMOVE ALL DOUBT. i aske for help on a problem not your foolish comments. if you cant help fix the problem then shut up and mind your business. :chillpill:

yeah i've had mine since dec of '07 and mine just quit working yesterday. cleaned media and impeller still nothing. on hold right now with hagen! you're not on the line with them now are you? there is one person ahead of me!

This sounds like the problem i had with mine.. If you listen down by the motor/impeller does it just sound kind of like bubbles ???? If so you'll probably have to call Hagen. Mine did the same thing and i had to call Hagen and they sent me a whole new motor/impeller assembly.. Of course i had to answer a 100 questions on how i installed the filter but that was no biggie being i did it straight by the directions. Not sure what the problem was, i cleaned the whole thing just like it said in the manual and still nothing.. But now that i have the new motor it runs like a CHAMP once again..
:iagree: goin to send mine in tomorrow! should recieve it repaired/replaced within 1-2 buisness days.

Don't bash the guy who doesn't like Fluval. Just remember, 0 posts does not equal he just climbed out of the womb, just that he joined. I hear people can gather information through sources OTHER than MFK... I know, blasphemy. I personally do not like fluval (yes I know, FX5 is a complete redesign blah blah blah), but that does not mean I am a heretic. I understand lots of people like them, but personally I had 2 break on me and my brother. I am not saying people shouldn't use them, but we should welcome both sides of the opinion.

I can sense some heat, might be flames coming!

I love my Fluva. I just wish the damn thing would quit with all the bubbles. Anyone have advice on ridding those annoying tiny bubbles?
