Hi guys just noticed tonight that the fx5 on my aro tank is quite noisy around the motor area, but by the looks of the flow it seems to be pumping fine, but i took iall the media out and cleaned all the sand out the bottom and took the impeler out and put it all back together but its still the same, any ideas what i should be buying/ordering
Ive never had so many problems with a filter, there is an xp3 on the same tank that is at least 2.5 times the age of the fx5 and it never misses a beat?

cheers steve

there has to be something in the impeller well. Check again.

What kinda of noise is it? Mine made a noise once and took me a bit to figure it out, it was just a small portion of the casing vibrating.

It sounds a like a cross between the impeler rattling/gurgling and a bit like when there is air in the system but its definitely coming from the motor housing
I couldnt see anything in there and i had my finger and a screwdriver in there, but it does seem to be pumping well?

Cheers steve

Still doing it:(:(

Not to experienced with the FX5s, but I would say that cleaning it might help. If that doesn't work, you might be looking at a new impeller.

Hi mate i have cleaned it and taken everything off that i can and the impeler looks fine and the flow is as normal, its just making a right noise.I know it seems to be working fine but i dont just want to ignore the noise and regret it.

cheers steve

Is the impeller loose at all. It may look good, but if it is worn, the it might move around inside and cause vibration/noise.

No mate it looks and feels fine,il give it another go tonight.

cheers steve

Sorted, when i first looked at the impeler it looked fine, but i did think the little bush in the bottom looked a bit worn but i had lost the tool so i bought a new impeler kit and new seal.

When i took the old one out and compared it to the new one including the bush,i could clearly see that the top black part of the impeler assembly moved alot more than the new one,but the bottom little bus as i thought was the main problem.

If youcompare the old to new,the new one is a nice snug fit on the bottom of the impeler shaft but the old one has got at least a mm of play in it.

Now its sorted and quiet,i thought i would let people know for future reference, the filter is about 18months old by the way.

Cheers steve

Good and thanks.
Not sure on your filter, but on most impellers you can take the magnet/vane assembly off of the shaft...
Turn the shaft over and run on a new surface for a bit more use before replacing.
