Hi all I am giving my fish an upgrade to a much larger tank. However, I think my fx6 hose will not be able to comfortably reach the top. Any tips on creating something for them to sit on or extending the hoses?

You can buy replacement hose from Amazon. It's 4 meters long and can be cut to the size you want;

Build a short stand for the filter and put it next to the tank?
I had this problem before with an FX6. My solution:
I bought black 1" ID (it was either 1" or 7/8") vinyl tubing and cut the extra length I needed from that. I used that at the canister in/out valves, and tied that vinyl hose into the the factory FX6 hose with a plastic barb adapter. The adapter is barbed on both ends, and I just used extra hose clamps at the connections.

Agree with Dano, just buy replacement hose and swap your end pieces onto it. Very easy to do, I've done this before.
