Fx6 Output/agitation Concern

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks all! I plan to put 3 Bala Sharks, Red Tail Black Shark, Pictus Catfish and Sailfin Pleco. Should I leave he nozzle where it’s at or move it up? I plan to add a little more water so it’s up to the black line which may slowdown my agitation further

You think my tank is out of level? What do you mean?

Comparing the waterline to the top trim on the tank, it looks like it's leaning back. It's important to have it level front to back and side to side to avoid putting unnecessary stress on the tank and stand. To me it looks like it's off about 3/8" to 1/2" in two feet.

I thought that too, but perhaps the lid is just sitting crooked?

Another option for more surface agitation is to add a spray bar. Fluval don't provide one for the FX6, but it's easy to make one. I'm certainly not a handyman (my wife jokes about it all the time) but even I found it easy. All you need is some pipe (same diameter as your hoses), a couple of end caps, glue and a power drill. The key is to drill plenty of holes with a good sized bit (having too few holes, or too small holes, will reduce the overall flow - which would defeat the whole point of getting an FX6). With plenty of big holes, and the spray bar running the width of the tank, you keep the same flow and the water isn't shooting out at high pressure.

You can have a waterfall or rainfall effect by placing the spray bar well above the surface, as in the picture below (taken during a water change.

I prefer to have the water level just half an inch below the spray bar, as in the second photo. It provides plenty of oxygenation, but I added a couple of air stones anyway. It produces a natural effect that visitors always comment on and which the fish seem to enjoy.

It's worth experimenting to get the effect you want.
