I don't wanna jump to conclusions but even at $100 I think its a good deal for this filter. Its built well, has a lot of media space and the sellers at truaqua.com sell very good media for cheap with free shipping. May try some of their other products

how are these larger units? I have the smaller 3 compartment canister and the performance is incredibly underwhelming. I put my hand in front of the outflow tube and i can't even feel the water coming out.

I like my 500 a lot, I'm really interested to see how these 400s stack up. Will post back once I get them.
