i cant find the award winning shinning one, but heres a thread of some very beautiful altifrons if you haven't already seen it yourself

LOL! Check out post #7, I just put that very same link in this thread... I agree with you they are beautiful. Do you know exactly what variant of Altifrons those are or how available they might be (at any size)?

haha lol i just posted the same forum you posted. woops.

So with the links in this thread etc... Can you see why I ask? So are there any users that have kept both or would recomend one over the other from experience?

Altifrons are nice don't get me wrong, but I think the luminous greens, and the white pectoral fin trailers on the Abalios win.. My Abalios is the longest fish I have ever kept, and I hope to have him for years to come.

I personally greatly prefer altifrons. I have the other 2 manuas altifrons ans my male is buy far the best looking Geophagus I have. With that said I am not a fan of the tapajos altifrons as much. Most of the others are all extremely nice. Manuas, tocantins, Rio Negro, and Xingu are all stunning in my opinion and all nicer then abalios. I have never seen the other variaty that Rapps is selling for $50 so I cannot say for sure on them.

I would agree with this. The Tapajos race are my least favorite that I have seen in person.

Yeah I would give my left arm for some manuas, that is what made me question what I really wanted. Don't see many available often though, none locally. I am leaning towards keeping the abalios since it is a bully, Peter says his is a bully as well. I think a group would go well with my heckelii when they reach maturity since I have hear the heckelii will get more aggressive as they mature. Does anyone keep altifrons with heckelii as adults?

The Abalios are a very nice Geo. The Manaus that Grey has are probably the most "different" of all Altifrons. They don't grow as large as say Tapajos or Tocantins but they are extremely beautiful as adults as Jgentry said.

Go with what you want. I'm a big fan of Altifrons, but thats me. Abalios are much easier to come by and goodluck trying to find a correctly IDed Altifrons or any of the rare ones listed in my Signature:nilly:

Thanks Jamie. I am going to stick with Abalios. I know I can get my hands on them and cheap at that. Maybe when I set up another tank I can make an Altifrons only tank a goal. Besides, by then I'm sure you'll have found some of those in your sig and be tired of them enough of them to sell to me... :naughty:

Haha, goodluck on getting any rare Altifrons from me except for fry!!! I'm hoping for some breeding action from Tocantins soon. It's been a long time coming from 1" to 8"+ now. I'm unaware of the ones that Rapps has plus a $50 tag is too high. So I think I will hold off on those. I'm really going for Negro and Manaus ATM.
