Just a word of warning...

Check the lid on your new G3 or G6 chemical cartridge before you rinse it.

I wasn't paying attention, rinsed it and I guess that stuff expands a bit (its the Tri-EX one). The lid popped off in my hand! Luckily I caught it before I lost any of the media. :clap

Hopefully by writing this post I will remember to check when the next 30 days has gone by.

so how do you like the new fluval Gangsta 6?

I'm loving it. My favorite feature is the flow monitor. I have the normal mechanical filter (not the fine) and it was good for the first week. I saw the flow rate was reduced, so I gave it a scrub (which is SUPER easy) and it went back to 100%. After that it would be 5 days until the flow was down 50%. Scrub. This week it was every 3 days. So I replaced it today. I'll let you know how that goes.

I'm still running my old HOB along with it.

My only gripe so far are the clips that hold the head onto the chemical cartridge cup. I have small hands and I can't squeeze those clips hard enough and hold the cup at the same time. The clips aren't smooth either, so it hurts my wimpy fingers. :(

Batteries are dead on the camera, heading to the store in a few. I'll get some pics up tonight.

It's just soooo......pretty! Too bad they dont make like a G12 or somthing bigger =( and cheap enough they dont have to run a credit check on me just to look at one lol.

Haha! When I bought the G6 two things happened: First, my card screamed and my bank cut off all other sales for that day (until I called them). Secondly, my lfs takes me a whole lot more seriously now (they've even stayed open late for me).

 That cracked me up.

Nice filter ! Have you tried the nitrate cartridge by any chance ? I hear they kick butt for freshwater. You might wanna try the fine pad too just to see what it traps etc how quickly flow is reduced.

Also please keep us updated ! Im very interested.

tcarswell,

Funny that you ask about the nitrate cartridge, I just put in the Tri-Ex one (carbon, phosphate binder and nitrate binder). Haven't been able to get my nitrates below 80 ppm for the last month. Reading when installed:

80 ppm nitrate
0 ppm nitrite
0 ppm ammonia

I'll be checking every day for a few days and will post my readings.

Please let me know I wanna get some of the nitrate remover for my 405 made by fluval similar stuff.

Hope it works out

Also what size tank is it ? Is it the only filter ?
