it would literally be a pump with essentially a chip on top to receive and transmit data, and an out line for draining, and an in line for refill....people who have a drip system could essentially use it right out of the gate. you could do a water change from your car at work. lol I don't think the niche market of water changes would get a good kickstart from a crowd fund

LOL, I was joking about funding. I was more on the lines of packaging up a system to essentially create an auto drip system/water change for the mass market. Most systems are put together only for specific set-ups and some folks wouldn't know where to start.

My brother-in-law has a 240G reef where he's automated almost everything. So water out from sump, water in to 5-stage filtration/dosing is all automated. The only thing missing is sand vacuuming, but he has a relatively light bio load. The phone app would be convenient if one wanted to perhaps override the system to change for ad-hoc water changes and monitoring. Else, no need.

point being, you could do it from your phone on your way home, no waiting while your home haha.

Hahaha, we're like the guys talking about what we'd do with the millions of dollars we hypothetically won from the lottery. My real-life example that I gave above was that it truly already is automated, and there is NO manual intervention. His tank is automated such that it runs at a given time already - no need to be anywhere near home.
