I've done a little research and it seems like the name Galaxy and Vampire Pleco are interchangeable. I've also seen them labelled as L007, L029 and L240. Can someone simplify or clarify for me? Looking for the pitch black pleco with the larger white spots. Thanks!

They are all a single species l numbers only apply to a fish before it has been described.

The fish you are referring to is Leproacanthicus galaxias

They aren't the same species, at least not currently considered the same. They are similar but not the same.

L029 was the L number for Leporacanthicus galaxias. Check here for the fish you are looking for.

There's another genus of plecos that is black with large white spots that you may want to look in to, Hypancistrus sp. (L201):

LDA 33 Baryancistrus sp. AKA "Snowball Pleco" is also a popular black and white pleco.

Like many species out of the amazon, a lot depends on what river/what part the fish were collected. The species you mention above are all variants of Leporanthicus Galaxias, probably collected from different river points and distinguished by very small physical differences (ex. smaller vs. larger spots, etc).
