Admittedly I have not yet read LOTR, though it's on my list, however, what I have gathered from this thread is that Gandalf is some kind of lesser, immortal god. As awesome as that may seem... how amazing is it really to be an eternal, almost-all powerful being, as opposed to being a normal, mortal human being who through his own dedication and determination became the greatest sorcerer the world has ever known?

It's like the difference between being born into money, and being born poor and becoming filthy rich all on your own.

I think Gandalf and Dumbledore will try to avoid a physical magical duel. They prefer using their knowledge and strategies as the weapon, and just plainly manipulating others.
I'll want Gandalf to win.

This thread needs a Poll...! :D

i think you should read the books before you attempt to break down your ideas like that. i believe once you read the series, you will switch sides. regardless, scrapping your way to power (or money) is not the same as having an unlimited supply of power that'll NEVER go away

Yes, I probably should read the books. I've seen parts of the the movies... never really payed attention, though.

Still... you can't deny, Dumbledore's got style.
