Gar Advice

Hey guys and gals, I found a local fish keeper that is selling a 12" short nose gar for $10. He is saying if no one picks it up soon he will just release it. I have actually been looking for some florida gars for my 84"x30"x26" 285, but any gars that will fit in there are fine by me. I would first need a positive ID on this gar (I'll post a pic below). I just want to make sure my tank will meet the gar's needs before I go ahead with purchasing it. Thanks in advance

yes, it is a spotted. I say you should get it because at $10, it is much cheaper than buying a Florida gar and sure rarer in the hobby too.

If I were to want to add some florida gar later would I be able to do that or would there be some aggression? I've read of some spotted being aggressive towards other gar in the tank. Also how many other gar besides this spotted would I be able to add?

They will live together perfectly if they're similar in size
