Gar ain't eating.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Water parameters are fine, just checked. I also just did a water change on Saturday. Could it be the black substrate preventing it from seeing stuff in the water?

I tried feeding it some beef steak(raw of course). Took the first piece but didn't bother snapping up the subsequent pieces.

atleast your gar is now showing signs of eating.

It's finally eating! Like i mentioned in the earlier posts, i bought some baby snakeheads as feeders for it. Since i thought the gar wasn't interested, i put the lot in a 15g to help with cycling. Most of them ate really tiny bits of beef i chopped up but the weaker ones did not and just floated at the water surface. Decided to try and tempt the gar by holding these weaker ones by the tail with their head in the water right in front of the gar when in lingered near the surface. Gar snapped them right up. It's eaten 2 already. Problem solved!

Congrats:) good to hear the fish is doing ok. Keep us updated!

Contrary to your statement, Channas are my favourite fish. It's just that micropeltes babies are sold here as feeders. In fact, i've taken quite a liking to the 10 or so remaining in my 15g that I'm fattening them up with BEEF STEAK. Might keep a couple if i can get my hands on a bigger tank. Does this answer your question? And just so you know, they sell a packet of about 25 babies for $2, it's cheap food for my gar anyway.
