I have heard that it is a big nono but i would like to get your guys take on it. and also any first hand experience. Thanks

I have 2 FL gars and 1 spotted(all over 12") gar in with 3 silver aros. My aros range from 9"-20"+ with no issues at all. I don't see what is a no no about combining the 2 species. Maybe I have been lucky but I'm not the only one on here who has gars with aros.

P.s. Please excuse the water spots on the glass--I have to do a vinegar treatment to remove them.

i have 3 FL Gars (8-13") with 15" silver arowana. when the gar and arowana were the same size, my gar would occasionally nip at the arowana and making it jump.

before i get to anything else, can you elaborate on the species of gar, number of gar, size of gar(s), same for arowanas, and the tank size?

florida gar silver aro and jar and a 300 -400 gallon just one of each jar is super mellow.

Didn't work for me in the 500.

African arowana was killed and Black was taken out in bad shape (has since healed).

No problem keeping them with florida gars in my experience.

Ok thanks everybody for the input seems like something you have to try to be sure about

given the species of arowana you intend to keep i would say that it is a no-go.

even if you own a "super mellow" jar, i'm sure you are no stranger to the fact that they are unpredictable fish that can and will kill even long-term tankmates .
